From 2022 through the L4C (Legacy for Children)
programme we have been working with 7 institutions in a bid to assist them
align with the National Care Reform Strategy (2022-2032).
Since the inception
of the project, various groups of stakeholders have been sensitized on care
reform and other related government policies.
DCS in collaboration with the LIPS
has trained the staff of the 32 CCIs in Meru and also identified and trained foster
parents.
The LIPS have also facilitated and helped the institutions in re-integrating
the children back into family and community. Institutions are also being helped
in evaluating their current programming and beginning the journey of transitioning
to other programmes which can equally be of benefit to children in general.
The neediest pupils in the communities where we work receive financial and material support for their education from primary level to college/technical institute/university. Apart from the support we also do a lot of mentoring to the pupils by enrolling them in mentoring seminars and camps.
As a CBO, we are champions of various social-economic and health issues affecting communities. Matters like gender-based violence, child abuse, menstrual hygiene education and economic independence of women are some of the causes we do a lot of advocacy in. Preservation and promotion of child rights and welfare are other causes we engage the communities and stakeholders in to spark positive changes and interventions that can benefit children.
We run a feeding programme for vulnerable children at a local school in Municipality. The initiative has been in existence for more than 15 years, it reduces absenteeism among the pupils and also improves their nutrition status.
